Inspiration

I'm sure seeing our name, Coogle, you can tell what our inspiration was... it was Google! However, we wanted a search engine that was specialized in searching CUNY resources to help anyone in their CUNY journey.

What it does

When using Coogle, the user has to do two things. They have to tell us what senior CUNY college they attend and then tell us what they need/what problems they have. They do not need to worry about finding the right resources or wording their searches correctly. All the user has to do is tell us their situation and Coogle does the heavy lifting for them. Coogle analyzes their response and provides a list of CUNY-wide or college-specific resources ranked based on what Coogle deems most helpful to them.

How we built it

We built Coogle with a React frontend, a Flask backend, a database using Firebase, and a CMS for CUNY faculty to upload their resources.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into several challenges. Some notable ones include when we forgot to comment out some preliminary test cases that broke our ranking algorithm. Another problem we faced was obtaining enough data for Coogle, which we ended up building an aI webscraping tool for. Most of the challenges we ran into were tricky bugs that required extreme attention to detail to catch. At least we are more perceptive now than before this project!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments we are proud of is developing our webscraper as it automated the data collection process tenfold.
