💡 Inspiration
ConnectHelp is an all-in-one platform for new university students to find and get mentors-hip regarding internships, fellowships, open-source, and a lot more. One common problem almost all junior students relate to is missing one or the other opportunity that they were capable of accomplishing. We plan to solve this problem by connecting junior students with their seniors who will mentor them regarding the right opportunities. We have integrated Twillio to send alerts to our users so that they never miss a good opportunity. Along with mentor-ship, we'll also provide students with the right resources to improve their skills right from the start to build a solid foundation for their career
⚙️What it does
It helps connect seniors and juniors with each other and juniors can get guidance on what to do next. It has chat functionality where both can talk to each other. Also subscribing to our weekly newsletter it sends resources on your field of interest. Get whats-app alerts on upcoming open-source opportunities.
🛠️ How we built it
- We used Wix for the whole website frontend
- To make the site dynamic we use Wix backend scripts functionality
- Used Twilio for Whatsapp reminders for upcoming open-source programs.
- Used CockroachDB for storing User details.
- Used Sendgrid to send emails to the users.
⚠️ Challenges we ran into
- It is my first time building a web app on Wix. At first, we planned to add some great features like submitting the idea we got a nft on Deso using DesoAPI, But we are unable to do so due to lack of time.
- We had a difficult time implementing the text overlay on the image as well, and it was hard to make a fully responsive UI.
- We were getting errors in integrating Twilio but Wix backend logs help us to get a better understanding of what was going wrong and we fixed it. Also, this was our first time working with sending an HTML template in email and integrating CockroachDB. We used Twilio and CockroachDB for the first with Wix but in the end, we will be able to do it so.
👩💼🧑💻 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Well, we built a whole social platform in 16 hours!! That's the biggest achievement of this hackathon.
- Able to build an app on Wix that really solves the issue.
- Ourself for trying our best.
🧑💻 What we learned
we learn how to integrate Twilio and send whats-app messages with it also how to use Wix backend to make the site dynamic and integrate CockroachDB with Wix.
👩💼What's next for ConnectHelp
- We want to add more features like video call feature with seniors as per availability and many more.
- Scaling to hundreds of thousands of users and UX improvements!
- Making the code Open Source and engaging different People.
