Inspiration

Our team was inspired by the recent 2021 phenomenon known as the Texas Freeze, in which many residents of the chronically-summer-state Texas found themselves isolated - both physically and mentally - amidst a once-in-a-century snowstorm within an once-in-a-century global pandemic.

What it does

Connect With Relief, as the title suggests, connects the people that require assistance during bad weather days with organizations that are able to assist with any necessities. However, the site also connects users with other users who may be in similar situations in order to make everyone feel a little less alone and more supported and, well, connected.

How we built it

Our website was primarily built with HTML, CSS, with the usage of GitHub. Check out our code/documentation below! documentation

Challenges we ran into

Our team had great difficulty trying to implement an authentication system that would allow for users to chat with other users. We were also unable to effectively implement any sort of weather API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Given the strict time limits for our project, our website is visually appealing and functional. We also have created a prototype of our plans for this project going forward, in regards to systems we plan to implement in the future.

What we learned

We learned the basics of creating a website with HTML/CSS formatting, as well as how to prototype/plan on sites like Figma. On a broader scope, we were able to perceive the necessity of limiting scope when planning a project for such a limited-time event.

What's next for Connect With Relief

We plan to implement some sort of authentication system that is personalized for users, so users can actually chat with others online. We also want to connect some sort of weather API to the site so users can receive personalized weather data/any important storm warnings, and take action accordingly.
