Inspiration 🌟
One day, I missed my shuttle and ended up being late for class. Keeping track of the shuttle times is as tricky as figuring out the university dining hall's menu. By the time I reached the campus, my stomach was growling. Yet, I had no clue what was being served that day. On top of that, trying to consistently note down lectures, especially when I miss one, is another challenge I face. It's tough juggling shuttle times, class notes, and daily menu changes, often causing me to miss out on favorite meals.
What it does 🛠
This solution tackles several issues. Firstly, students no longer have to stress about taking notes during lectures. If they miss a class, they can easily catch up with a summary of what was covered. These concise points will help students recall class content efficiently. Additionally, we've incorporated shuttle service details, so staying updated on shuttle times is a breeze. Want to find out which dining hall is serving your favorite dish? Now you can. Plus, the most popular items are prominently displayed for easy selection.
How we built it 🏗
We crafted 'Connect' using an amalgamation of frontend and backend technologies. On the frontend, our primary focus lay on creating a design that epitomized simplicity and accessibility, making sure students face no hiccups while navigating the platform. Delving into the backend, we seamlessly integrated with the university's pre-existing IT infrastructure to garner real-time data about shuttle services and dining hall offerings. To achieve this, we employed APIs that allowed us to not only fetch but also update information in real-time, thus ensuring students are always equipped with the most recent data. A pivotal feature of our platform is the utilization of machine learning. This powerful tool enables us to generate concise and relevant lecture summaries, making them readily available to students on the website.
Challenges we ran into 🚧
One of the significant challenges was integrating with various university systems, which had different data formats and access permissions. Ensuring real-time accuracy, especially with shuttle timings and constantly changing dining hall menus, was another hurdle. Additionally, ensuring our platform remained user-friendly while offering a comprehensive suite of features demanded regular feedback and iterations.

We successfully integrated three major aspects of student campus life into one seamless platform. The Interactive Lecture Summaries, which not only help daily note-takers but especially assist students who missed classes, stand out as a unique offering.

What's next for Connect 🚀
Looking ahead, we plan to incorporate more personalized features, such as individual study plans based on lecture summaries and dietary preferences for meal recommendations. We also envision a community feature where students can exchange notes, discuss popular dishes, or even coordinate shuttle rides together. Expanding to other campuses and integrating further campus services, like library bookings or event notifications, are also on the horizon.
