ConceptMap comes from our own past learning and also teaching experiences – learning’s not just listening to a continuous lecture or using a strict set of lessons, but instead having the chance to explain your thoughts and train of thinking out loud. That train of thinking can then be shared with others, giving them the chance to repeat the process all over again.
At the same time, a concept-map or brain-sketching comes from our science “Mind Notes” from years ago, which was encouraged by a teacher as an optimal study method, starting with a broader topic, then narrowing it down little by little, relating one idea or concept to the next. That same strategy has then helped us learn coding: a problem that looks complex on the outside can be broken down little by little, until it’s easy to follow step-by-step.
