Inspiration
The rising cost of regular commutes and the need for sustainable travel inspired us to create an app that connects people sharing similar routes, reducing expenses and carbon footprints.
What it does
CommuteMate matches drivers and passengers based on the proximity of their start and end points, facilitating cost-effective and eco-friendly ride-sharing.
How we built it
We used React-Native for the frontend, Django for the backend, and PostgresSQL for the database. Integration of Google Maps Places APIs to ensures smooth user interaction.
Challenges we ran into
Our challenge was prioritizing features during brainstorming, deciding what to include now and what to save for future releases.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have created an app that focuses on helping people save money on commutes. Our goal is not to earn money but to make commuting more affordable and accessible for everyone.
What we learned
We gained valuable insights into geolocation technologies, user-centric design, and the importance of testing for scalability and performance under real-world conditions.
What's next for CommuteMate
Future plans include introducing in-app messaging, enhancing ride-matching algorithms, adding AI-driven route optimization, and exploring ad placements for revenue generation for a more streamlined experience.
