Inspiration

We were inspired to create this dApp after recent incidents of crime-reporting apps wielded their status and power to influence their users in inappropriate ways.

What it does

CommunityShield allows users to report crime in the area and alert their fellow community members. The data is then stored and fed from a decentralized database. Users can receive upvotes on their incident reports which will work towards rewards to incentivize quality community participation.

How we built it

We used React Native, integrated with a Google Maps API to create the application.

Challenges we ran into

Finding a UI kit that was compatible with React Native, integrating the Gun database

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our ability to learn new technologies as we went, integrating new features and user experiences.

What we learned

We how difficult it can be to integrate new technologies.

What's next for CommunityShield

We would like to add new features such as video streaming, police scanners, and more ways for our community members to participate and benefit from the community-based rewards system.
