### About the Project

**Inspiration**
The inspiration for **Comida de mama** came from the universal challenge of trying to recreate a beloved family recipe from a faded, handwritten notebook. Traditional recipes often lack the precise, real-time guidance needed to avoid a kitchen mess. We wanted to build a bridge between those cherished paper records and a modern, interactive cooking experience that feels like having your mom right there in the kitchen with you.

**How We Built It**
We developed a full-stack application designed for seamless, hands-free interaction:
* **Frontend:** Built with Next.js to provide a responsive and clean user interface.
* **Backend:** Powered by Express to handle app logic and data flow.
* **AI Integration:** The core of the experience is powered by the Gemini Live API. This allows the app to process live video and audio, enabling it to "see" your cooking progress and provide verbal feedback in real-time and does real time live translation to any launguge fit desirable.

**Challenges We Faced**
One of our primary hurdles was ensuring the AI could accurately distinguish between different cooking stages through a camera lens—such as knowing exactly when a pan is "hot" or when a steak has reached the perfect sear before flipping. Calibrating the latency between the video feed and the AI's voice response was also critical to ensure the guidance felt natural and helpful rather than distracting.

**What We Learned**
Through this project, we gained deep insights into integrating multimodal AI into everyday tasks. We learned how to structure prompts that allow the AI to act as a proactive assistant—offering safety warnings like "be careful with that heat"—rather than just a passive information retriever. We also refined our skills in building real-time communication bridges between the frontend and powerful AI models.

**Future Plans**
Moving forward, we want to expand **Comida de mama** into a social platform where users can digitize, save, and share their own family recipes with a global community. Our goal is to create the ultimate experience for culinary enthusiasts to explore and preserve diverse food cultures through interactive technology.
