College Connect

Inspiration

At first, it would be bit hard to connect with people if you are visiting a country by yourself for the first time. Therefore, we created this website so that people with similar backgrounds and majors can connect and feel more comfortable during their college experience.

What it does

The purpose of this site is to connect new students with someone similar to their background. This will give them a good start to make new friends and help each other during their college experience.

How we built it

We used Flask for the backend, raw HTML and CSS for the frontend, and SQLite3 for the database.

Challenges we ran into

Firstly, making a login system in Flask was really difficult, as we have never used Flask and SQL in the same project. Also, deployment to a cloud provider was surprisingly hard, and we tried many different providers and methods (docker, Linux VM, etc.). However, at the end, we couldn't fully deploy it due to time constraints and errors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have made a functional login system for the first time in Flask. We are also proud to have made a app that can build our culture-rich city (Phoenix).

What we learned

We learned that Flask is a fully capable web app, and we can definitely rely on it on future projects. We also learned that deploying is hard and should not be forgotten about.
