Inspiration

Inspiration came when we studied all the problems that low-income first-gen students face. Once we realized that, we also realized that high school students also had similar challenges and sometimes more stress. Also, it is hard and time-consuming to find resources, so having a place where they can find everything is ideal. For example, a high school senior is stressed with AP classes, ACT/SAT, extracurricular, college applications, scholarships, and aid applications, so they may not have time to put in the effort to do all the research required to find the resources.

What it does

The website gives you a questionnaire that generates the resources you are looking for. For example, if you need scholarships and mental health help, you will see a page that links you to various scholarships and also a page that shows you a list of mental health resources.

How we built it

We first conducted a survey to gather information, then made a website using HTML and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into was figuring out how to help low-income first-gen students. We overcame that challenge after making a survey and seeing the problems students faced.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have made a website with all these resources to help students. One of the team members is a rising high school senior, so she and her friends could use the website in the coming months.

What we learned

We learned that there are a lot of challenges that college and aspiring college students can face. For some of those challenges, the solutions are easy to find, but others are harder to find. Also with the stress and time consumption of college applications, SATs, and AP classes, seniors may not have time to put effort into finding the necessary resources.

What's next for College Together

What's next is adding more resources. The current content is based on a small survey, and not everything from the survey could have been added due to the time constraint. With more time more resources can be added and the website can look more welcoming.
