Inspiration

I've always wanted a solution to collaborate with others on my notes, particularly when I'm working on blog posts. Instead of the traditional approach of sending my notes for review, I thought, "Why not collaborate on them together?" This personal frustration and the need for a real-time collaboration tool were the driving forces behind the creation of Collab Note.

What it does

Collab Note is a platform that allows users to share their notes with others and work together in real-time. It enables multiple individuals to collaborate on the same note, making it a versatile tool for various applications, including blog writing, content creation, and collaborative note-taking.

How I built it

I developed Collab Note within an impressive 18-hour timeframe. Interestingly, my initial project was focused on building a logistics tracking dashboard (which can be found here: LogisTrak Project). However, due to time constraints during the hackathon, I made a last-minute decision to switch gears and create Collab Note instead. The core technology behind Collab Note is based on Ably, which facilitates the publishing and subscribing of content to specific spaces or channels. While Collab Note currently lacks authentication and storage features, I plan to implement them in the future to enhance its utility.

Challenges I ran into

One of the significant challenges I encountered during the development of Collab Note was implementing the publishing and subscribing functionality to specific spaces or channels. This aspect of the project presented some technical difficulties that required creative problem-solving. Despite the challenges, I persisted and successfully brought Collab Note to life.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I take pride in participating in the hackathon that broadened my horizons and introduced me to new, innovative ideas. However, the most significant accomplishment is the creation of Collab Note itself. In a remarkably short time, I transitioned from a logistics dashboard project to a fully functional note collaboration platform, addressing a long-standing need for real-time collaborative work.

What I learned

The project was a valuable learning experience, especially in terms of mastering Ably technology. This newfound knowledge has expanded my opportunities to bring other projects to life. Building Collab Note also reinforced the importance of flexibility and adaptability when facing unexpected challenges.

What's next for Collab Note

The next phase for Collab Note involves implementing authentication and storage features. This step is crucial to enhance usability and security. My ultimate goal is to make Collab Note a widely-used and indispensable tool for individuals and teams looking to collaborate seamlessly on notes and documents. The journey continues, and Collab Note is set to evolve into an even more powerful collaborative platform.
