Inspiration: Breathalyzer tests and feelings of fatigue
What it does: Assess cognition and active memory
How we built it: Created the software, and then moved into hardware
Challenges we ran into: Sampling and accuracy of data
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Some differentiation in performance amongst students
What we learned: It's very difficult to actually assess cognition amongst a group, as in it's better to compare an individual to his/her baseline level
What's next: More tests, more data, more sampling
Detailed: A device that first calculates your tests your short-term memory by playing a simply game of Simon Says. Next, a reaction game is played to ensure the reaction skills are also up to par to drive. These tests ensure the user is responsive and ready to drive, comparable to a breathalyzer for alcohol.
Overall, we feel comparable with this because of the noted effects of lower sleep levels in drivers. 1 in 25 adult drivers has fallen asleep at the wheel in the last month, and 6,000 fatal accidents occur each year due to this.
