Inspiration

With the increase in economic uncertainty following the pandemic, feeling secure in our jobs has become more important than ever. We want reassurance that our hard-earned skills are worth the time and effort, and we want to know what the industry will need in the future.

What it does

CodeWayfinder can help you stay ahead of the curve by allowing you to focus on the programming languages that are most relevant to your career goals. Our app gathers data through user participation in surveys, making the information up-to-date and reflective of current industry trends.

How we built it

Front-end: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Chart.js (open source JS library) Back-end: Firebase for user authentication and Firestore for storing and retrieving data

Challenges we ran into

Time pressure: Completing a project within the limited time was challenging. Technical difficulties: Learning new tool was challenging as we had to learn a new JavaScript library (Chart.js).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the biggest accomplishments in our first hackathon was completing a project, especially within the given time frame. We are also proud of ourselves for learning something new that we can apply in our future projects.

What we learned

We have learned how to work under pressure and how to manage our time effectively to complete our project.

What's next for CodeWayfinder

Future features that we envision for this web app to have is to automatically select the city where the user is from by obtaining their Geo IP so we can display the results that are most likely to be relevant to the user’s interest. We also want to expand the data set by including more languages, tools, and more.
