OUR INSPIRATION
CodeLango was inspired by our own journeys as coders. We wanted to make an app that was friendly for beginner coders by introducing them to coding syntax and computer science theory, without the stress of formal coding and professorial computer science jargon to promote learning first and foremost. We hope to remove the intimidation that comes with taking an official computer science or coding course for the first time.
OUR PROJECT
CodeLango is a mobile app designed for computer science beginners! Our app provides an easy-to-use learning platform with flashcards and quizzes covering the essential theory and concepts of computer science. With access to multiple coding languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, C++, and R, beginners can familiarize themselves with the jargon and syntax of various programming languages. Unlike coding platforms, our app is focused on learning, providing a perfect foundation for beginners to start their coding journey. So, whether you are an absolute beginner or want to brush up your coding skills, our app is the perfect place to start your journey!
HOW WE BUILT IT AND CHALLENGES
After thoroughly brainstorming and mapping out the mobile app design, we realized that our team did not have the skill set to code a mobile app. While all of us had varying levels of experience with Java, Python, HTML, and CSS, we did not have enough experience with Swift, JavaScript, or a language that would enable us to code the mobile app. However, we were determined to take our vision to the utmost we could, so we found Figma. Using Figma for the first time, we created a prototype design for the mobile app. Alongside the mobile app, we also coded a more basic website using our knowledge of Python, HTML, and CSS because we plan to extend CodeLango into a web format as well.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
As a team, we really learned how to utilize each and every team member's individual skill set to create a successful end product. We all improved our coding knowledge in at least one language, and we are extremely proud of learning to use Figma and creating an entire prototype on the platform from scratch. in under 24 hours. The design is clean, intuitive, and user-friendly.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR CODELANGO
Currently, our platform contains flashcards for general computer science theory, Java, and Python. With more time, we hope to extend our range of languages included to JavaScript, C++, and R and fully conjoin our mobile app and website design.
