Inspiration

I love coding. I enjoy making things and challenging myself, reading up on the latest news about coding and CS, and exploring other coders' amazing work. I thought to myself, there must be other people with this same passion and excitement when it comes to coding. This is why I started codeGlimpse, a website that connects coding resources, news, and coders alike. Despite not having social interaction functionality, this website can be seen as a hub/center made by a coder and for coders. I also want to help introduce people to coding and the amazing things it can do, hence the motto for the site being "Code is for Everyone."

What it does

codeGlimpse is a small blog-like informational website that offers a variety of insights like the latest news in CS, a weekly collection of featured coders who make amazing things, weekly coding themes and challenges, as well as a list of the CS world's best and most notable websites and courses for learning coding.

How I built it

I used HTML, CSS, and JS. The project was purely frontend and no frameworks / backend applications were used.

Challenges I ran into

My biggest challenge was making the site look visually appealing. I'm not the most creative person so I had to spend a lot of time thinking about how to approach this well from a visual perspective, experimenting with page structure, font and color a lot. Also, a big issue in creating this website was that my margins were super messy and there were a lot of inconsistencies in the page structure that I had to fix.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud to have made a website with decent visual appeal (at most), and I'm also proud of my resilience in the tougher moments of making this website. For two weeks of learning website development, I'm grateful for how much I've learned already.

What I learned

For starters, I learned how to properly center items in divs :) Along with that, I learned some techniques in creating visually appealing websites such as good typography, colors, balancing the website's design, etc.

What's next for codeGlimpse

I doubt I'll continue working on codeGlimpse. Although I want to help make an impact on the coding community, this website won't gain much traffic, it's just that the idea behind it was the reason I made this site. I'm projecting very minimal traffic for this site, if not, no traffic at all.
