Inspiration

We all came from similar childhoods which is what majorly inspired Clover. As kids, we would be translating important legal documents for our parents. Besides that, we realized that like ourselves, many Asian immigrants struggle with being financially literate as there aren't resources for them to actually learn, taking into account that for many, English isn't their first language.

What it does

Our website allows users to create a profile with a short survey at the beginning to determine which language they need while incorporating the basics of financial literacy and stocks with fun, interactive activities such as pop-up quizzes.

How we built it

Inspired by the hackathon's sponsors, we decided to use Velo by Wix for our basic website template. We also incorporated code segments throughout the website to make it more interactive, such as using code to create our pop-up quizzes.

Challenges we ran into

None of us had any experience in web development or Wix, but we were determined to learn. It was also challenging as none of us had much experience with any web-development languages, so we had to essentially teach ourselves overnight to accomplish our vision. We tried incorporating a Translator API but were ultimately unsuccessful because of certain logistics such as being a local host, so we had to quickly adapt and use Wix's built-in translator feature.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take pride in our idea as we believe, if implemented properly, could benefit many. We are also proud of our teamwork and collaboration as many of us didn't know each other before the hackathon. Technically, we are grateful we were able to pitch our idea and get positive constructive feedback that we were able to incorporate into our website.

What we learned

Many of us gained technical skills by learning web-development languages such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We also learned how important communication and managing tasks were because Wix only allowed one person to edit the website at a time, so we had to effectively communicate and divide up the workload so we could get as much work done in such little time.

What's next for Clover

So far, we only have a language translation option for Chinese, as we chose to focus on the largest Asian-minority population in America, but we hope to expand to include other minorities as well and offer more translation options. Something else was potentially making Clover into its own trading app or a simulation of one utilizing live data from the global market to create graphs and charts on our website to simplify trading and investing for our audience. We would also simplify the process of doing taxes by compounding the research and making the knowledge easier to understand.
