Inspiration
When we talk about the "future" there are so many thoughts that come to my mind, but let me just highlight few things that we might be able to see it in the near future, maybe around 2050.
First, the market. What i can see the market in the near future is that the market tends to be more simplistic, and soon i believe that carrying a mobile phone will become the new problem statement, because this is so troublesome to carrying electronic devices around. So what do you think the next generation of mobile devices will look like? thinner or smaller?
My point of view is that smart contact lenses will completely replace mobile phones and that is the next big thing we can see in the near future, and yes it is definitely possible and achievable, there is currently a company called Mojo Vision, they've managed to inveted the world's first smart contact lens, but it's still experimental, at the moment it is controlled by eye tracking. This also means that the presentation of AR will be at the contact lens, making it easier for humans to interact with the AR world.
And i believe very soon, eye tracking input from smart contact lenses will be replaced by BCI (Brain Computer Interface). It is a technology that enables brain signals to control external devices. I think BCI is quite mature and stable in the market now, and it is widely used in the medical field. Did you also know that the scientists at HRL Laboratories have managed to "upload" knowledge to the brain,it's really exciting to hear that ! I believe that in the near future, humans will be more understading on how the brain neurons work, not only to read signals, but also to write, alter and even go deeper, such as extract the memory.
Last but not least, AI will definitely become more and more advanced in the near future. I believe that there will soon a demand for more "human" AI rather than behaves like programmed.
Judging from the technologies currently on the market, there is no doubt that smart contact lenses, brain-computer interfaces, AI, and AR will become more and more advanced.
By combining all these technology, there is one idea i can think of - "Clone". Another you in the AR world.
What it does
How it works is that it will first use the BCI technology to extract human memory, then let AI learn the patterns, behaviors and emotions, and then turn your photos into 3D models, put it in the AR world and let AI control it. Finally, your "clone" is now in the AR world, with similar behavior and emotions. It sounds ridiculous and fancy, but it's definitely possible and achievable in the near future.
There are many use cases that can benefit social such as :
- "Actual person" AI Chatbot with the real emotion and behavior.
- Let people communicate with the dead person
- Let people communicate with their dream idols
- Talk to yourself to learn more about yourself or for entertainment purposes
- Education purpose
- Medical purpose
- Training purpose
- Many other potential use cases can be found
The "Clone" is something that I believe will be achievable in the near future and will definitely be one of the most exciting technologies in the world.
How I built it
In this demo, I just put a simple 3d human model into the AR world and make simple interactions. Of course there is still a lot of work to be done from the idea I'm talking about, that's why I call it the future.
Challenges I ran into
To be completely honest, this is my first time working with AR project, i have no idea how AR works, how to create 3D models. First I spent about 4 days trying Unity but gave up ( too many thing need to study ! ) and switched to three.js, then I spent about 2 days creating my own 3D model but couldn't get it into Zappar...
When I was developing with Zappar, I had some issues like hosting issues because the 3D model size was too large and publishing issues because npm build messed up the index.html file.
But anyway, the overall experience with Zappar was really fun, learned a lot, and it made AR development so easy that even beginners can create AR projects in minutes.
Accomplishments that I proud of
I managed to build my first AR project :D
What I learned
I learned a lot from this project like three.js development, Unity, concept of AR, technology in AR and so much more!
Built With
- three.js
- zapparuniversalar
