Inspiration
We are passionate about the overwhelming amount of landfill destroying our environment. We wanted to help combat this by teaching people the importance of recycling and disposing of waste into the correct bins so they can be correctly handled.
What it does
This is an interactive game that will teach people what specific item of waste goes into the four main categories of trash: Garbage, recycling, compost, and hazardous waste (batteries, etc.). By players selecting from a list of icons (examples of trash) to correctly 'place them into the bins', they are rewarded for accurately placing waste in the right bin, or must try again if they placed an item in the wrong bin. For example, a banana is a compost, however, if a player thought it was garbage, they would have to start again until they know it belongs in the compost.
How we built it
We used repel.it to design and code our game, as well as Scratch for a prototype of the concept
Challenges we ran into
We spent long hours trying to correctly write a line of code, when really we were missing a bracket or misspellings, definitely wasting time. Howver we all worked hard and well together,so our project was a great challenge as a whole.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For begginers, we are so proud to have created something like real programmers.
What we learned
We learned a huge amount of java in one day. We also know now to properly check each function
