Inspiration

Many people in underrepresented and local communities struggle to understand important documents such as government notices, school letters and job requirements. These documents are often written in complex language, causing confusion, missed opportunities and even penalties. ClearRead AI was inspired by the need to make information understandable and accessible to everyone.

What it does

ClearRead AI helps users understand complex documents by turning them into: A simple, plain-language explanation Clear key points Actionable next steps Users paste any official or complicated text and the system instantly explains what it means and what to do next using AI.

How I built it

ClearRead AI is a web-based application built using: HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the frontend PHP for backend processing Google Gemini API for AI-powered text analysis The backend sends user input to Gemini with a structured prompt, and the AI returns simplified explanations in a clear consistent format.

Challenges I ran into

One of the main challenges was ensuring the AI output was not just simplified text, but truly useful and actionable. It required careful prompt design to consistently produce clear explanations, key points and next steps without jargon or unnecessary complexity.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Building a focused and impactful MVP within a limited time Creating a clean, accessible UI that is easy to use Using AI in a meaningful way to solve a real-world problem Delivering a solution that can genuinely help underrepresented communities

What I learned

I learned the importance of simplicity, focus and user-centered design. Instead of adding many features, prioritizing clarity and impact led to a stronger solution. I also gained practical experience integrating Google Gemini AI into a real application.

What's next for ClearRead AI

Future improvements could include language translation, document uploads (PDF or images) and voice-based explanations. These features would further improve accessibility and reach more users, especially in local and underserved communities.
