Inspirations

When selecting our project, Waymo’s mission is to make it safe and easy for people and things to get where they’re going, which inspired us to create our app.

What it does

ClearPath is a mobile application created to help commercial truck drivers avoid wildlife-related accidents. The app uses data and geo-tracking to pinpoint areas with high probabilities of accidents caused by roadkill.

How we built it

We first researched our problem space and then narrowed the scope to create a simplified solution by focusing on one demographic. We built a prototype on Figma with basic functionality and tested it amongst ourselves, then built the app on ** React using Supabass, JavaScript, and four different Google APIs to give users the most accurate data. **

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges we faced was creating an algorithm that would go through the data set we had on roadkill-related incidents and accurately cross-reference it to the geolocation of the driver.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of completing the cross-reference function, which has thousands of lines of code, in such a short period of time.

What we learned

Picking a demographic is vital when conducting research, how to use multiple Google API’s simultaneously to create a product, and to keep our target user at the center of our design and it’s functionality.

What's next for Clearpath

For the future, we want to: Add a “Report Incident” feature. Research integration with Route Optimization apps and Self Driving Vehicle Software. Build the app on React Native. Add notifications to warn drivers of incoming hazard zones.
