College life is busy and unpredictable. We noticed that even though students share campuses, they often struggle to find friends or study partners because their schedules never align. That inspired us to create ClasSync; a simple, smart way to turn class schedules into meaningful connections.
ClasSync matches students based on their class timetables. By uploading or linking a schedule, users can instantly find classmates with shared or overlapping classes and free periods; making it easy to form study groups, grab lunch, share notes, or collaborate on projects. It’s part social app, part productivity tool.
How we built it: We designed a web platform with a clean, student-friendly interface. The system allows schedule uploads or integrations, and our matching algorithm compares class times to suggest potential connections. We added features for secure communication via email, chat or Discord, all while maintaining user privacy through encrypted data handling.
Challenges we ran into: Ensuring user privacy while handling sensitive schedule data. Designing a matching system that feels accurate and relevant. Making ClasSync engaging enough to encourage widespread adoption on campus. Balancing functionality and simplicity in the user interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Creating a functional prototype that truly addresses a common student problem. Developing a secure and privacy-conscious matching algorithm. Building something that encourages both academic collaboration and genuine social connection. Turning a simple idea, shared schedules, into a meaningful community tool.
What we learned: We learned how impactful user-centered design can be when solving real problems. We also gained hands-on experience in teamwork, algorithm design, UI/UX principles, and how to balance innovation with practicality. Most importantly, we learned that technology can make campus life more connected and supportive.
What's next for Classync? We plan to: Integrate with university scheduling systems for automatic timetable syncing. Introduce AI-based recommendations to improve match accuracy. Launch on specific campuses through partnerships with student organizations. Add group and event features for class-based networking and collaboration.
The idea for ClasSync came from our own college experiences. We realized how often students struggle to make connections because their schedules never align. We wanted to create a simple, practical solution that helps people socialize and collaborate through something every student already uses: their class timetable.
