Inspiration
The inspiration behind this project came from classic circuit racing games that focus on pure driving skill rather than open-world chaos. We wanted to create a game where mastering the racing line, braking at the right moment, and staying on track truly matters. The goal was to capture the excitement of professional track racing in a simple, accessible form suitable for a game jam.
What it does
This is a track-based car racing game where players compete on closed racing circuits. Players complete lap-based races, earn coins through performance and clean driving, and use those rewards to unlock new cars with different handling and speed characteristics. The game features level progression, a garage system, AI opponents, and a polished racing interface.
How we built it
The game was built using a modern game engine with a strong focus on modular design. We implemented a waypoint-based track system to ensure cars stay on the racing line, realistic car physics for smooth acceleration and steering, and a responsive UI for menus and in-race HUD. Game states, progression, and rewards are saved locally to allow continuous play.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing realistic car handling with arcade-style fun. Ensuring AI opponents followed the track naturally without feeling unfair also required fine-tuning. Time constraints of the game jam pushed us to carefully scope features while still maintaining polish and stability.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
We’re proud of delivering a complete, playable racing experience with a full progression loop—from racing and earning coins to unlocking cars and tracks. The smooth controls, clean UI, and well-designed tracks demonstrate strong attention to detail despite limited development time.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how to design engaging game loops, manage scope under tight deadlines, and balance gameplay realism with accessibility. We also gained hands-on experience with AI movement systems, physics tuning, and frontend polish for games.
What's next
Future plans include adding more tracks with unique themes, deeper car customization, improved AI difficulty scaling, and enhanced visual effects. We also plan to expand the garage system and introduce time-trial and leaderboard modes to increase replayability.
