We were inspired to build our app after seeing how many older adults struggle to stay socially connected and maintain healthy habits, especially when current tools feel impersonal or aren’t designed for them. Our solution is a simple, senior-friendly platform that brings local events, volunteer opportunities, and wellness-focused connections into one place, making it easy to meet people nearby and stay active. For building this app, we used React Native for cross-platform compatibility, Supabase for secure authentication and real-time updates, and integrated maps for event discovery and location-based matching. We’re proud that our MVP is easy to navigate and genuinely useful for finding activities. Along the way, we learned that helping seniors connect is the single most important feature of our app. Creating an atmosphere of warmth, vibrancy, and genuine community is what makes those connections last. Next, we plan to partner with more local organizations, add voice navigation for accessibility, an AI chatbot for helping the seniors who may need our help, and pilot the app in multiple neighbourhoods to gather feedback and grow the community.
