"Only 12% of secondary materials and resources in Europe are being brought back into the economy. Many products break down too easily, cannot be reused, repaired or recycled, or are made for single use only"
This a problem. What could be an answer?
GreenRay fills the gap, that consumers do not know what goes into their products. The purchases they're making are driving an environmental disaster for our planet. The GreenRay software solution uses the technical data sheets of the products on the market to calculate the environmental impact and overall sustainability of the customer's purchase. Using a simple QR code scanner the customer knows exactly what goes into the product they are purchasing. And the producer knows exactly what materials the customer wants to buy. In order to create an effective and environmentally safe product, GreenRay can shed ray of light on product sustainability! It can therefor help to create the world we want for our children.
In the first phase we started to built a proof-of-concept prototype. You can scan the barcode of the product and it shows the main components it was made of. It also gives you - in a simple "traffic-light-system" - the information if the product has mainly recyclable components (green), some non-recyclable components (yellow) or if it is mainly non-recyclable and/or contains harmful substances (red)
The software is a simple App on your iOS or Android Smartphone and uses a QR scanner.
The target group is the ordinary, but concerned citizen, who is looking for straight forward information about the impact he is making with his or her purchases. The EU has adopted amazing Frameworks and Legislations - but who has time to go through the 80 pages on the impact of making pasta?!? We need practical solutions that work in everday life. Like GreenRay!
