Inspiration

Movies, regardless of the background of any person are something that all individuals can enjoy and bond over. Through movies, we could find unity and connect to people of similar interests without any parameters or restrictions. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have caused many of us to lose the sense of socialization and caused many of us to stay home unwillingly, whether that is due to sickness or another factor. Humans are naturally social creatures and with Cinema Network, we plan to bring more comfort and accessibility in searching for the perfect one, while relieving mental stress to bring an interconnected community of movie lovers.

What it does

Cinema Network is the place for all movie-lovers to come together and watch their favorite movies. With Cinema Rooms, people from all different backgrounds can either host and join an existing event or watch a movie together. You can find people who love the same movies as you and be able to find new friends along the way. Your dreaded at-home quarantines will never be boring again. Cinema Network combines streaming services with a curated social experience, with Community Chats to discuss your favorite scene, obsess over all the characters within a movie, or find new movie recommendations.

Challenges and What we Learned

As all of us were from different skilled backgrounds, such as Crystal from a non-STEM marketing background, and since our team has never done a hackathon project before, we opted to all explore prototyping using Figma. However, this was a completely new learning experience, and we faced multiple challenges in how to create overflow scrolling pages, how to create interactions between all the different pages, and in general, the organization of the whole page. We all had to learn basic UX design and explore possible competitor apps currently in the market.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was such a great experience for all of us and we are so proud of being able to submit our first hackathon project!!

What's next for Cinema Network

For the future, we plan on creating curated questions when a user creates an account to further personalize the home page and the movies recommended. We will also add badges to each profile when certain achievements are completed, such as attending your first cinema room.
