Inspiration

I love watching Netflix. Their platform is easy to use and I love the concept of having all my favorite shows in one place (my favorite show is Stranger Things and my brother's is Avatar: The Last Airbender). Netflix having thousands of movies and shows to choose from is never a problem. Usually. Earlier this week, our dad was chilling, watching a Bollywood movie during a break. But most of the break took browsing, reading overviews, and watching the first 15 minutes of a movie before realizing it wasn't good. We wanted to create a tool that speeds up this process, so people wanting to take a break can simply chill.

What it does

Chill about Netflix is an extension that displays the scores the movie or show earned on different rating platforms like Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, and Metacritic on the Netflix website in the overview page. Users can browse through shows and movies and see the ratings, allowing them to make a quicker decision on what to watch. No need to get frustrated, you can Chill about Netflix.

How we built it

We built it with JSON and HTML, and the OMDb api key which has the score the show/movie got on IMDb, as well as the Rotten Tomato Tomatometer % (the critic score, not from users) and the Metacritic Metascore.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The design seamlessly blends in with the rest of the Netflix UI, as if it was always a feature. Now users can sort through entertainment more efficiently! What's different about our extension versus pre-existing ones is that Chill about Netflix shows ratings across multiple different platforms.

What's next for Chill about Netflix

We want to integrate this feature into other streaming services like Prime and Apple TV. We also want this to become a feature in other versions of Netflix like on the mobile app, or on TV.
