Inspiration
Our inspiration was from a regular chess game. While playing chess, because one of our members is very bad at chess, his king was always being chased by the white pieces at the near end of each game. In addition to such experience, we always love to play horror games such as five nights at freddys and saw how nextbots are currently trending. Therefore, we decided to add such features to our experience in order to create a chess next bots gameplay from a unique point of view of the last king in a special situation. We really wanted to incapsulate the fear.
What it does
You are the black king. You are being chased by white chess piece nextbots. Nextbots are bots that will chase you. However, the nextbots are able to do special things depending on how they move in chess. Try to survive as long as possible
How we built it
We used Godot which is a super cool open source game engine. We had to incorporate path finding into our game to make it go around the wall. In order to make it scarier we only have a small circle around the player illuminated and if enemies get too close the whole world turns red.
Challenges we ran into
Learning how to apply the darkness filters, figuring out pathfinding and creating the huge maze.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a nice frightening game
What we learned
We learned how to use collision layers and masks, use pathfinding in godot and make a scary atmosphere
What's next for Chess Nextbots
We hope to make it so we have random maze generation and add sound
Built With
