Inspiration
For many home chef's around the world, it is a very common problem to be unable to interact with online recipes because their hands are dirty (don't want to dirty your phones). We aim to use VoiceFlow to enable chefs a hands-free approach to navigating cooking recipes.
What it does
ChefBoost provides a seamless end-to-end cooking experience for anyone who loves homemade, fresh food by inspiring users with world cuisine recipes, delivering right amounts of ingredients to your door, and leveraging Voice tech to guide you through a no-mess, no-stress cooking journey.
How we built it
We built the app using React.js in the front-end and Firebase for the back-end data storage. The application is also entirely hosted on Firebase with a custom domain from Domain.com. VoiceFlow was used to create the voice communication between the user and the program.
Challenges we ran into
Due to popular demand, there was a shortage of Amazon Echos and Google Home Minis. To overcome this, we used our phone as a substitute for Google Home. Firebase connections were a big issue for we couldn't connect the voice data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a successful proof of concept application which could help many home chefs when completed.
What we learned
We learned how to use VoiceFlow, set up Firebase for storing data, hosting data, and new React.js tools. We also learned how to use Regex combined with Beautiful Soup in order to web scrape data.
What's next for ChefBoost
A mobile application will be produced and the proof of concept will be solidified as a real app.
