Inspiration

The Philippines' standing as one of Asia's friendliest nations, noted for its openness and tolerance, served as inspiration for Chameleon. What further motivated our team to participate in this competition was its origin and similarity with our school organization ICARUS, also created during the pandemic. We felt like we had found kindred spirits and it was enough for us to say, "Ah, ICARUS kin!"

We thought of how wonderful it would be for different great minds to come together and build something greater than themselves. With this in mind, we set out to develop a solution that overcomes language barriers and improves communication on a personal, local, and international level because we understand how important effective communication is in developing these attributes. Our drive came from the need to support businesses in promoting economic growth, help people acquire languages so they can communicate more effectively online, and fortify diplomatic links.

What it does

During video calls, Chameleon is an online tool that offers real-time transcription and translation. Its smooth integration with Google Meet and Zoom enables users to converse in multiple languages with ease. The software creates a smooth and natural-sounding chat by analysing your voice and translating in your own voice. Chameleon further enhances language learning and cross-cultural exchange by providing language practice with native speakers.

What's next for Chameleon

The next phase for Chameleon is to make a more seamless integration with mobile phones and video calls. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies is something else we are excited about, like Apple's creation of tech-enabled glasses. In the future, we see Chameleon using both audio and sign motions to enable auto-translation through these glasses. By enabling users to receive translations in real time, this innovation will improve communication and completely transform how we engage across linguistic boundaries.

(Although we might not be able to have the resources to code for this to happen. We believe that we will continuously work towards this to come into reality)

What we learned

We discovered how critical it is to remain current with emerging technologies. We can continue to innovate and advance if we stay up to date with technical developments. Keeping up with new innovations is essential to preserving our competitive edge and making sure our solutions continue to be applicable and successful in this age of fast technological change.
