Inspiration

ChainChat has a vision of becoming the West's decentralized version of WeChat. Knowing WeChat has 1.2 Billion monthly users, we see a unique opportunity to combine Nostr's messaging, Bitcoin Lightning's fast payments and the ability to upload videos with a TikTok like infinite scroll and become the world's first decentralized all in one social media application.

What it does

ChainChat is a secure and decentralized social media platform that combines the messaging capabilities of Nostr with the transaction processing power of the Bitcoin Lightning Network as well as the ability to upload videos.

How we built it

ChainChat was built using a combination of blockchain technologies, including Bitcoin's Lightning Network and Nostr's decentralized messaging protocol, with programming languages including React Native, Nostr, JavaScript, Bitcoin Lightning.

Accomplishments

We are proud to have built the majority of our MVP. The only functionalities we are missing are the Bitcoin Wallet integration and the ability to upload videos. But in the amount of time we had we are happy with our application.

What we learned

Through the development of ChainChat, we learned about Bitcoin Lightning network and learned that SIA storage would make for a great way to store our videos had we had the time to do so.

What's next

Moving forward, we plan to incorporate SIA storage for the video files as well as fully integrate the bitcoin wallet to be able to send and receive bitcoin payments.
