Inspiration
We were inspired with the idea of triple encryption: 2 times using asymmetric encryption and once using symmetric encryption. The interesting thing about triple encryption is that you would never be able to tell if you cracked the first level of encryption because you would be looking at still encrypted text. We stemmed off of this idea to create the most secure communication app we could in 24 hours. One of our stretch goals was to integrate the Vantiv payment API.
What it does
We ended up making a military grade communications application that uses 4 factor authentication and asymmetric encryption. The authentication factors are password, face recognition, text message, and government issued ID recognition. We used SSL to encrypt the message over the web. The user signs up and sends their authentication factors. They can then add contacts to send super secure messages to. The messages require you to use 4 factor authentication to view them so that the intended recipient is the one who actually reads the message.
How we built it
We used Swift to develop the ios app and PHP to develop the back end. Graphics were made in photoshop and gimp
Challenges we ran into
Mainly getting the server and the application to talk properly but also encoding images.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Having so many methods of authentication, including reliable face recognition that is trained accurately with one image.
What we learned
How to implement different types of encryption and authentication both in PHP and in Swift.
