Inspiration
As we are second year students applying for the Co-op program, we have been polishing our resumes. As a result, resumes were at the front of our minds when we began brainstorming for an idea for the job security theme. We thought to ourselves, what if there was an app that could aid people in creating their resumes?
What it does
Catch-A-Job is a web application that allows users to enter info into a form and then puts that info into the resume that it creates the user. The resume will also be saved to their collection, where the users and view them as they please.
How we built it
First, we set up the backend using Node.js, using MongoDB for our database to store the created resumes. Next, we build the front end with React to create the UI and
Challenges we ran into
One of us was a complete beginner to web development and everything that was used to create this web application and had to quickly pick things up along the way. This was a challenge along with the time constraint of the hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we of the fact that we were able to produce a website with polished UI graphics, and we are also proud of the results of our first ever hackathon and all that we learned.
What we learned
We learned to use React, Node.js, MongoDB, and also how to attempt to create and debug a web app.
What's next for Catch-A-Job
After this, we will continue to work on Catch-A-Job to ensure that all of its functionalities work, and then we may add an interview practice option, where the user can practice answering interview questions within an allotted amount of time.
