Inspiration
We wanted to make a program that uses data to help local businesses during corona season. Since our group members were interested in music, we chose to analyze data from songs that play in stores to see if there is a correlation between music quality and purchases made.
What it does
Our program records the times that customers enter and exit stores, the number of their purchases, and the songs that played while customers were in the store.
How we built it
We used Python methods and an API to record songs. A video editor was used for the demo video as well as the "advertisement" for SmartTune on the google slides.
Challenges we ran into
There were a lot of unexpected variables that we ran into while determining the best way to draw conclusions from raw data, so we had to make a lot of assumptions. Creating and editing the demo video was also quite hard as none of us had prior experience with video editing nor creating demo videos in general.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first hackathon, so we're proud of how much we were able to accomplish during the hacking period. We had many tumbles along the way but in the end, we have a product that in theory will work and we will continue to work on the project until it is fully completed.
What we learned
We ran into many challenging things while working on this project. One of the challenges that we learnt from was learning to work with classes and observables; something which we had never seen before in school. We also learnt how to use resources like an online cooperative online coder and video editors.
What's next for SmartTune?
We will be continuing to develop SmartTune to make it fully operable and possibly try to test it out by taking data from a bigger store and using it in one of our local stores. As many assumptions and fake data trails were made to test out the program temporarily, we will obtain actual data to further the possibilities of SmartTune.
