Inspiration
All of us own cats and we wanted to make a social media platform to share photos and thoughts of our cats.
What it does
It lets the user post a photo along with text to a public feed. It lets the user choose a photo, post title, and post content.
How we built it
We made this full-stack website by using NextJS with Typescript. We then used Prisma to manage the database from MongoDB.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges. The biggest one of which is the time restrictions as all 4 of us were from completely different sides of the planet so managing time was the biggest issue. Another issue was using databases with images as we could not get file uploads to mongodb. Lastly our api key actually charged us money for an unusable API key.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the efforts we put into the app as well as everything we learned through the process of getting it to life.
What we learned
We all learned new skills on how to manage back end aspects. Also 2 of us never use NextJS so that was a fun experience to learn.
What's next for Cat Social
We plan to develop this project further with weekly coding sessions in the future to further grow this app.
