Inspiration
We came up with this idea when we all had something in common. We all liked to save money. However, we had different methods to keep track of our spending, all of which were inefficient. Some of us like to use notebooks and others like to use note apps. Whenever we check our notes, it can often be hard to find a specific transaction. That’s why we came up with Cashbuddy as it was easier to filter and sort our transitions.
What it does
The website is designed to help users keep their transactions in one place. They can set their budget. They can also list their expenses and an updated budget will be displayed. If necessary, they have the ability to change the budget completely. We also have a filter system set so everything is organized and easily accessible.
How we built it
We built Cashbuddy using the languages HTML, CSS, and Python. We also used the PostgreSQL database and deployed our website on the Heroku Cloud Provider.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to make the program, so that users on any device could use our program, but we had trouble making it responsive. It took up most of the time. We also had trouble detecting small bugs which broke our entire program.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our teammates had no experience with hackathons or anything coding related, but she helped us out a lot with the frontend design. We were able to design a beautiful website despite being unfamiliar with Figma.
What we learned
We learned how to deploy to Heroku for the first time. We also learned how to create responsive websites by using media queries and flexbox design. We also learned niche tricks for getting the perfect positioning of our curve svg like position relative with position absolute.
What's next for Cashbuddy
We plan on creating a search bar to search for wording of transactions, so that finding previous transactions would be easier. We also need to design an icon to represent our app.
