Inspiration:

The inspiration behind Carta: Map Your Imagination was a desire to explore the world in the past, present, future and the what-ifs. To do this, we created an engaging educational app that combines the power of generative AI with creative storytelling. We wanted to give users a unique experience that allowed them to wander through the world, plan imaginary adventures, and explore to their hearts' content.

What it does:

Carta is a creative tool that combines history, geography, adventure, and imagination. We employ generative AI to recreate historical scenes, suggest itineraries for exploring ancient times, and offer tools for exploring fantasy worlds. It also uses machine learning to recommend other cities to travel or to generate a travel itinerary in the familiar and unfamiliar world. Users can witness historical events, visualize a day in the ancient world, embark on educational journeys, and craft imaginative universes—all within our app.

How we built it:

Carta utilizes cutting-edge machine learning algorithms provided by InterSystems, generative AI provided byIBM Watson, and user-friendly interfaces built in Flutter. The app is available on multiple platforms for seamless accessibility.

Challenges we ran into:

During Carta's development, we ran into issues of APIs not working. We have attempted to use various generative AI's API for picture generation but none was available for us at the point. Moreover, we almost implemented IBM Watson chatbot, but due to flutter version conflict, it was not completely successful.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

We're proud to have successfully created something combining historical exploration, adventure planning, and creative expression into a single app. Mixing educational content with clever world-building and attention-grabbing generative implements took a lot of work. But, it arose from an idea we were inspired by, and we are happy we got this prototype working. As fanatics of the history, geography, and fantasy, we plan to continue with this project or variants thereof.

What we learned:

The development of Carta has shown us the immense potential of generative AI in making content more enjoyable through its ability to personalize experiences. We gained significant insights into modern user engagement strategies by working with generative AI. We also learned rapid prototyping techniques that will be useful in bringing our future ideas to the world.

What's next for Carta: Map Your Imagination:

The future of Carta is bright. We plan to expand our database, enriching the user experience with more accurate and diverse historical scenes. Additionally, we aim to enhance the world-building features, enabling users to collaborate on shared fantasy worlds, and even allow AR-style exploration of the AI generated content.
