Inspiration

We were inspired by popular social media apps, such as Instagram and Snapchat, to create a fun, engaging, and immersive environment for the user through the use of Augmented Reality.

What it does

We created a AR/MR custom shopping experience directly from the carmax.com information. People can view cars from the comfort of their home or garage. Gives the user a 360° view of both the interior and exterior of a selected vehicle.

How we built it

We designed an AR experience using Snapchat and 3D tools. We used the 360 inside view from carmax.com as well as the surrounding images from each of the vehicles.

Challenges we ran into

Learning how to build an AR environment from scratch, figuring out how to separate the exterior and interior view models from one another, and difficulties with setting up a 360° interior environment.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning how to implement and manipulate Augmented Reality on mobile phones. Using the information already available on carmax.com which means it could be used today.

What we learned

How to manipulate objects and work with Scripts in Lens Studio to create an immersive experience for the user.

What's next for Carlens

Adding additional user interface functionalities, as well as adding a more expansive database of vehicles to pull from through Machine Learning.
