CarbonDock
The inspiration:
Hundreds of Americans die from CO each year, and tens of thousands are affected in some way by its presence. Additionally, CO2 is a significant factor in global warming, threatening to not only end individual lives, but the lives of all of Earth's organisms.
What we learned:
Through this project, we gained valuable GUI and network development skills.
The build:
Our project is mostly software, but the hardware behind that is far superior in importance. At the center of the Dock, a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ controls the rest of the device (although our current prototype is hardware-limited, as we were unable to locate the sensors required). The software is based on the p2p-local module, running a local swarm of devices accessible anywhere on the network.
Challenges:
Due to the lack of the required sensors, we were forced to create a software emulation of the sensor - that is, a piece of software that emulates the specific inputs and outputs of the MiCS5524 sensor.
