Inspiration

This app was inspired by my time working at my local zoo. I helped coordinate a group of teens that worked to teach guests about conservation. I wanted to create a learning tool to teach people about the impact of their everyday actions and ways they can make an impact on the fight against climate change.

What it does

The app first prompts users to take a short survey that asks questions about their energy, food and waste consumption and returns results as scores with either negative or positive impacts on the planet. It then suggests ways the user can reduce or offset their carbon footprint.

How we built it

This is a React app created using javascript and tailwindcss for styling.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was the time constraint. There was a lot more features I wanted to include in the app but needed to keep the scope small to achieve MVP.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the easy-to-use set up and the algorithms used to calculate the data from the survey.

What we learned

I learned more about contributors of our carbon footprint during the research process.

What's next for Carbon Füutprint

I hope to add some stretch features and make the suggested actions more tailored to the individual's responses in the survey.
