Carbon Buddy

Inspiration

Human activity, especially in these modern days, has drastically increased the amount of carbon footprint around the world. Our company think that the increasing carbon footprint can bring lousy effects for ourselves and the environment. So, we decided to build an application "Carbon Buddy" to encourage the user to reduce carbon usage.

What it does

Carbon Buddy tracks your carbon emissions based on your activities log against data we have carefully crafted. the application also includes challenges to encourage users to do environmentally friendly tasks. It also provides fun facts about our environment and climate today.

How we built it

We built this project using code but also a no-code tools, we used react as our frontend framework and using xano as the backend no-code tool. 80% of our features data come from the API our team built using xano, for the rest we use climatiq api. We also using firebase in our project for handling the database and the authentication system.

Challenges we ran into

Since we are all not experienced with coding, we might have a few confusion here and there when working on the app. We also had problems with the timing, it was a very short time yet everyone was busy in their own lives, but luckily with this team, we all cooperated in making this project and used our own time management to build this project. Although we did not get to discuss the way we wanted to which was face-to-face phone call, we still managed to work everything out together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Finishing this project in time, and doing this project with a very cooperative team. We all discussed from the very beginning till the end about every single details in the apps such as the features, logo, posters, the idea of the app and many many more. We put all our ideas evenly into this project and i think we did a good job in making them all connect with one another, we're all really proud that our app functioned very well and was according to our expectations.

What we learned

What we all learned the most is definitely working as a team even though we are all strangers, communicating properly and sharing opinions and ideas. Another thing we learned is how to cooperate different ideas into one concept and still making it work, from this we also learned how to make an app even though we all don't have much experience with coding, we learned how to build an app without and with coding format.

What's next for Carbon Buddy

Carbon buddy will continue to run as a software, we all hope carbon buddy could be the reason as to why someone is improving their lifestyle for the better. Expanding the features in Carbon Buddy would definitely be a go, we would like to add rewards to their achievement from the 4 features we have that could maybe enlarge the audience range for our app. Carbon Buddy will be a root of its own community where people will be able to connect with each other and help the environment for the better.
