Inspiration

The Archive Problem: We live in the most photographed era in history, yet we remember the least. Our memories are scattered and buried under thousands of random screenshots and infinite social feeds. We’ve lost the intentionality of "capturing" a moment to reflect on later. Capture was built to restore that intentionality through digital time-capsules.

What it does

Capture creates a "forced nostalgia" loop. Users seal a digital capsule of their current identity—automatically syncing Spotify top tracks, Photos, and Notes. These capsules remain locked in a secure vault for 1, 5, or 10 years, creating a high-emotion "Reveal" event that bridges the gap between who you were and who you are becoming.

Process & Key Decisions

We began by looking at how people document their lives. We realized we needed to remove the “bitter” from the bittersweet of nostalgia. This led to two key design decisions:

Automation over Manual Entry: We knew asking people to dig through digital clutter causes drop-off. By integrating APIs, the app auto-populates the foundation. This shifts the user's role from "Creator" to "Curator."

Identity Timeline: If a 5-year capsule just dumps raw files, we haven't solved the problem. We decided to structure the data into a story showing how music, goals, and friendships evolved.

How we built it

We first expanded on our idea through user research. We designed the initial screens on an iPad (see sketches below) and developed wireframes in Figma. Finally, we converted everything using the Framer plugin to create a functional, high-fidelity prototype.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, we thought the prompt was specific to 2016, but we pivoted to realize 2016 was just a symptom of the greater "Archiving Problem." I also faced a steep learning curve with Framer’s logic on a tight deadline, but successfully navigated it to deliver a clickable experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The "Identity Timeline" concept and the cohesive visual brand. We’ve created a project that addresses a genuine human need for connection across time.

What we learned

As much as it's important to flesh out the idea, don't leave the high-fidelity prototyping to the last minute! Learning the logic of Framer was pretty bad

What's next for Capture

Actually build it maybe?????
