About the Project: CampusSafe was inspired by a simple but important problem: incidents on campus are often reported, but not effectively tracked, prioritized, or acted upon in real time. Whether it’s a safety hazard, theft, or maintenance issue, there’s usually a disconnect between reporting and resolution. We wanted to build a system that not only collects incidents, but turns them into actionable insights.

What it Does: CampusSafe is an incident management and analytics platform that allows users to report issues across campus and enables administrators to monitor, analyze, and respond to them efficiently.

The platform integrates: A Power Apps interface for submitting and managing incidents A SharePoint backend for structured data storage A Power BI dashboard for real-time analytics and visualization This creates a centralized, data-driven system for campus safety.

How We Built It: Microsoft Power Apps (Canvas) → frontend UI for incident submission and management SharePoint Lists → backend database for storing incident data Power BI → analytics dashboard (KPIs, trends, distributions) Power Automate Workflows → connected everything seamlessly

We designed the system to follow a simple flow: User Report → Stored in SharePoint → Visualized in Power BI → Actionable Insights

What We Learned: How to design end-to-end data pipelines using the Power Platform The importance of clean data structure for meaningful analytics How to build interactive dashboards that communicate insights clearly How low-code tools can still enable powerful, scalable solutions

Challenges We Faced: Data Integration Issues Connecting Power Apps → SharePoint → Power BI required careful setup Limited Initial Data With small datasets: dashboards lacked insights Understanding Power BI Modeling Learning how Power BI handles relationships, fields, and aggregations took time. UI vs Functionality Balance Making the app look clean while still being fully functional was a constant tradeoff.

Impact: CampusSafe transforms incident reporting from a passive system into an active decision-making tool. By combining reporting with analytics, it enables faster responses, better prioritization, and ultimately a safer campus environment.
