Inspiration

Do you remember life as a freshman? We know that as freshman, most of us are unaware of many of the event and club meetings happening on daily basis. CampusLive was made to make it easier for college students to stay updated on events happening at their college.

What it does

CampusLive is a social media platform that allows college-students to view events at their own school in real time created by verified organizers. With CampusLive, college students can use an interactive map to schedule their day, find new hobbies, or explore their interests.

How we built it

CampusLive is a fullstack solution to a common problem students face when starting school. We built it using MongoDB, Express, Node, React, and a Maps API.

Challenges we ran into

We used a Map API called Mapbox to implement a realtime interactive map. The Map API documentation was outdated and there were very few resources to explain how to implement it and some of it's features. Additionally, 2/4 members on out team had no prior experience to the tech stack we used, but both managed to contribute something significant and learn a great deal of new technologies.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the dedication we showed and amount of work we put into CampusLive. We stayed up the entire night adding features, improving the UI, and making a scalable project. We are very proud of the front-end and back-end that was a product of this hard work. This was our first hackathon and we had some conflicts with time and merging the front-end to the back-end before 10am, but we were able to completely implement the front-end for out project and we implemented the vast majority of the backend, of which the majority runs as expected on the postman api.

What we learned

This was a big jump for every member of the team. We all learned a lot about both web and fullstack development. We also became proficient with git and APIs and learned how to work efficiently in a team.

What's next for CampusLive

CampusLive has the potential to be scaled to be a product for every college campus in the US. Right now, CampusLive is tailored towards Purdue students, but in the future we plan to open this to the world. Additionally, we plan to connect our front-end and back-end and clean up our UI before we decide to expand to the entirety of the world.
