Inspiration

CamPulse was inspired by the high prevalence of silent burnout among students. Many students continue functioning while struggling physically, emotionally, and mentally until they suddenly reach a breaking point. Most existing health solutions focus on treatment after problems occur rather than prevention. We wanted to create a tool that acts as a supportive partner, detecting early warning signs and offering gentle guidance to prevent burnout and health breakdown before it happens.

What It Does

CamPulse is an AI-powered app designed to help students monitor their physical, emotional, and mental health. Users complete a daily check-in through a quick survey and an AI chat companion, which provides supportive, personalized responses. The app analyzes the collected data to detect trends and provide actionable prevention tips. The insights page visualizes health patterns over time, highlighting areas of concern and offering strategies to maintain balance. If trends indicate potential burnout, CamPulse sends gentle alerts, always emphasizing support over alarm.

How We Built It

We built CamPulse as a web and mobile app using HTML5 and JavaScript for the frontend, with React providing a dynamic, responsive interface. Firebase handled authentication, real-time database storage, and push notifications to ensure data privacy and smooth user interactions. Figma was used to design wireframes and prototypes for a clean, intuitive UI, while Git and GitHub facilitated team collaboration and version control. For detecting early signs of stress, we implemented a weighted health score: Values above 0.7 trigger gentle preventive alerts. This allows the AI to identify potential burnout trends without being alarming.

Challenges We Ran Into

One major challenge was balancing usefulness with privacy, since health data is sensitive. We had to minimize data collection while still delivering meaningful insights. Another challenge was avoiding alarmist messaging; the AI needed to support students without causing anxiety. Quantifying prevention was also tricky because prevention is about what doesn’t happen. We solved this by focusing on trend detection and consistency rather than clinical outcomes. Finally, limited hackathon time required rapid prototyping, prioritization, and careful planning to make the app both functional and visually appealing.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We are proud of developing a fully demo-ready app that focuses on prevention rather than treatment. We created a smooth daily check-in system with an AI chat companion, built an insights dashboard that converts raw survey data into actionable trends, and designed a user flow that balances engagement, privacy, and gentle intervention. We successfully translated abstract health data into a student-friendly experience that communicates our “prevention before breakdown” vision clearly.

What We Learned

Through this project, we learned that prevention-focused solutions require empathy and simplicity as much as technology. Translating mood, stress, and sleep data into meaningful insights is challenging but rewarding. Ethical AI design is critical, and user trust depends heavily on privacy and non-judgmental communication. We also learned that daily engagement relies on small, actionable insights rather than overwhelming notifications, and designing for students highlighted the importance of supportive, consistent guidance.

What's Next for CamPulse

Moving forward, we plan to integrate wearable and device data to enrich insights while maintaining privacy. We aim to add personalized AI tips that adapt dynamically to user patterns over time, and explore community or peer features to reinforce positive habits. Expanding health tracking to include nutrition, hydration, and physical activity is another priority. Finally, we hope to conduct real-world pilot testing to refine predictive models, improve user experience, and make CamPulse an even more effective partner in student health prevention.
