Inspiration

Honestly, I was struggling to figure out what to do for a 'camping-themed' hack, so I figured I would make something that my family (and extended family) could use when going on family trips.

But, as I looked around for parks that were wheelchair accessible, the lack of knowledge was astounding, tucked in footers or left as an afterthought.

What it does

The site aims to combat the lack of knowledge by compiling a list of parks, and filtering said parks by location (U.S. state) or ADA-accessible amenities available.

How it was built

I used Velo by Wix.

Challenges

I had zero knowledge of Velo, so it was a difficult, albeit possible, learning curve. The examples were a MASSIVE help - honestly, whoever decided to put examples alongside documentation deserves a raise.

Also, I had to put in data manually because there's no list of every single ADA-compliant campground anywhere on the web, unfortunately. That was just menial.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I got a website up and running?? holy cow, honestly And this time I submitted it somewhat early too B)

What I learned

Velo by Wix is actually not so bad? It's pretty neat because it makes things a lot more flexible, and gives Wix a lot more functionality. I had made a discord bot for a previous hackathon (but never submitted it) so I had some experience in node.js, but honestly this was way more difficult. Still love JavaScript though.

What's next for campforall

I want to try testing out the dynamic pages feature, it looks really cool and I held back on it this time around because I wanted to at least get a project submitted for the first time.
