Inspiration
As college students ourselves, we found that making friends is hard, especially so with the quick rise of cliques. We've experienced both sides of the coin; the constraints of being limited to a single group, as well as the intimidation of approaching other set circles. Talking to friends, we've realized that whether we're inside or out, we all simply want to make more friends---yet the daunting exclusivity of cliques prevents both parties from doing so.
What it does
That's where Campfire comes in to bridge this gap. Campfire is a social media app targeted towards college students that removes the stigma of students befriending other “crowds” by allowing users to create/join open group hangouts for all within their vicinity. Users can see a map filled with events (represented by campfires), and click on each campfire to view a description of the event, the number of people going, and a live chat to discuss details. To create an event, users need only spend a quick minute to add the name and event details, then the new campfire is created and available for others to join.
How we built it
We created the design using Figma.
Challenges we ran into
While designing the app, we spent a lot of time researching what our color scheme and app flow should be. We realized how important it is that the UI be "clean" in order to attract and encourage users to use the app. Also, we realized that we couldn't bring the app to life within the 2 day time constraint (due to the 2 week verification process required), even with the exploration of no code apps.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of how quickly we were able to pick up on various different Figma tools throughout this hackathon, as well as completing what is for many our first hackathon.
What we learned
We learned that we need if we want to create a technical project, we also need to factor in technical skill and resource.
What's next for Campfire
We are planning to learn the necessary IOS/app development skills to bring this app to life.
