What it does
Cam kart is a simple multiplayer 3D racing game that uses a Google cardboard to control the kart and also goes one step further offering a stunning VR experience.
How we built it
We have built the core of the game with Unity 3D, using the cardboard SDK. The entirely map was custom made and we though that a cart as a vehicle could be a funny way to differentiate to the standard racing games. The multiplayer logic is made through a raspberry pi 2 which acts a server using Wi-Fi tethering technology and the smartphones (guests) connects to it.
Challenges we ran into
Most of us has never programmed with Unity3D and even less with a Raspberry PI 2. For us, it was a big challenge to download the entire Unity environment and a Raspberry OS image though the Wi-Fi connection, which was pretty slow and dropped most of the times. Also for us was very encouraging to make a 3D game in less than 24 hours and combine it with VR and Hardware.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Make it work! :)
What we learned
Built a 3D VR game with Unity.
What's next for cam kart
