Inspiration

Whistleblowing apps were my inspiration. However anyone caught with them would be subjected to society's abuse. I wanted to create an app prototype where people can call for help, without being judged. That meant creating an app with a cover.

What it does

CalcHelp is password protected by the right equation an answer, which the user can create. It unlocks to a homepage, where victims can immediately call their Emergency Department. Location services pinpoints their location to be given to the police. There a few questions to better prepare the police, in form of Yes or No to allow victim to quickly answer. The Incident Report page is only for those safe and would like to report. Open ended questions are given so that police can get as information as possible to assist the victim. There is also a History page, that gives a history of past reports and Emergency Calls. The Resources page provides additional help to victim in terms of mental health and legal help.

How we built it

I used Figma to create a prototype of the app. Additional, I used plug-ins such as Iconduck and Photos.

Challenges we ran into

I was unable to find the perfect cover for the app, that provides maximum security as possible. Only in the late stages, I managed to use the cover of calculator, and the name CalcHelp serves as a double meaning for helping in math and a safety app for victims.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The app prototype is functioning well and contains relevant details and content for the victims, such as Emergency Dial, Report page, History page and more Resources like Mental Health and Legal help.

What we learned

I learnt some new skills such as how to work with Figma and its plug-ins.

What's next for CalcHelp

CalcHelp aspires to be put out on the market, however spread by the word of mouth. This ensures that victims always have a way of getting help.
