Inspiration

As we are approaching Senior year of college, relocation is a topic that crosses our mind more and more often. We also understand other people who have the same needs since more and more jobs are going virtual. So we wanted to alleviate some of the stress.

What it does

We designed an application that recommends 10 places/cities given user preferences.

How we built it

We used ReactJs and other React packages for the front end. We used Python Flask as our backend and SQLite3 for database storage.

I did UI Design, data collection and worked on the frontend. I used React, charting library, and other react packages for the frontend.

Nuo Chen
I worked mostly on the back end, setting up the database, and scraping websites. This was my first exposure to web scraping, setting up a mini relational database and utilizing SQL. I spent a majority of my time formatting data using python to be inserted into the SQL database.

Edwin Lu
I worked a lot on the data collection, including much of the work regarding the data from the census of the US Government. I also helped a little bit with the frontend-ui design, as well as sqlite query logic and backend frontend communication. I also helped host the project on heroku (backend hosting is separate to make it a public REST API).

Rishabh Rajesh
I worked on the back end. I wrote the Python server using Flask, and I used SQLite to write a large query to get information from the database and created the algorithm that scores cities based on the user’s choices
