Inspiration
We were inspired to created Built for Immigrants because we are both the children of Immigrants and have experienced first hand the challenges that coming to a new place entails. We wanted to created a resource organization to provide all the services needed.
What it does
Our Organization and Webpage provides services for Immigrants and their families. We offer babysitting (Kare 4 Kids), transportation (Immigration Transportation), mentorship programs (Immigrants for Immigrants), language services, mental health resources, and more.
How we built it
We built our webpage using HTML and CSS. The page was built and hosted by Glitch and we used Canva for some formatting features. We utilized Google Forms and Font-Awesome Libraries to add some extra touches.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into plenty of challenges with our code. We had a hard time figuring our how to include a drop down menu in the navigation bar, we fumbled with the formatting, and had some layering issues. Thanks to determination and the mentors, we were able to get most of the kinks out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud for completing our first hackathon with at least a MVP (minimal viable product) that works and runs to our expectations.
What we learned
We learned how to work under a time restraint, include drop-downs in navigation bar, use Google Forms in a website, and how to properly ask for help.
What's next for Built for Immigrants
We are going to seek out volunteers and potential mentors to have as a baseline for our clients the immigrants. We will continue providing resources and services for them.
